90% of attempted logins are by hackers
Specialists in cyber crime, Shape Security have warned that around 90% of attempted logins on websites, including online banking, retail sites and even government departments, are being made by botnets using stolen personal information.
In an article written by The Times newspaper, it was revealed that more than 6m stolen credentials are leaked every day, which are then often listed online to be sold to cyber hackers from all over the world.
The article also revealed that the average Briton has around 15 online accounts whereas Americans hold up to 40, with many using the same one or two passwords. This means that hackers are able to essentially open many doors with just one key!
It is estimated that out of all of the attempts made to access personal accounts, only between 0.1% to 2% are actually successful.
