Increase in DDoS Attacks during big shopping events

In November, two of the UK’s largest online shopping ‘events’ experienced thousands of DDoS Attacks targeted on retail websites. These attacks, which were more numerous than at any other time of year, makes November the  month with the highest level of attacks in 2018.

Known as one of the year’s most popular (& often bonkers) shopping day, Black Friday saw an increase of 70% in attacks when compared to the daily average for the rest of November. Swiftly following Black Friday, Cyber Monday was also targeted and saw an even bigger increase of 109%.

DDoS Attacks or Distributed Denial of Service Attacks can have devastating effects on websites as the perpetrator makes their resource unavailable to its users. Many businesses were affected this November, which during peak shopping seasons can cause at best customer frustration and at worse financial implications.
