IT safety when working from home

With the majority of employees now working form home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to keep online documents secure.

Over the next few weeks (or possibility months), it’s going to be imperative that businesses look into new security processes to protect themselves in this new way of home working. With that in mind we’ve pulled together some top tips to help avoiding cyber-related mistakes:

  1. It’s important to maintain regular working hours: Not only can this help to prevent errors being made it can also make sure that you are online when your colleagues are and will not put you at risk if you chose to work later in the evening.
  2. Be aware of surroundings: If you are working around other people who may need to work in your household, it’s going to be important to designate a space where you can work without potentially compromising data.
  3. Secure your home set-up: Make sure that your home router has a password and a firewall switched on. We also recommend that you don’t use any unsecured WiFi so use your phone’s HotSpot if you can.
  4. Slower Speeds: With lots of people trying to access the world wide web from home, you’re going to find that the broadband speeds are a little slower so be patient when you are expecting to receive a large file or something similar.
