Debit card glitch causes double payment

Thousands of debit card holders in the UK were charged twice for debit card payments following a system glitch. An error occurred with a particular card terminal, Cardnet which is run as a joint venture between Lloyds Bank and First Data.

Customers hard-earned money came out of bank accounts twice but transactions only showed up once on many retailers’ receipts. Lloyds Banking Group reported that around 5% of Cardnet machine transactions were affected by the glitch on Wednesday 29th August.

Although many people who were charged twice have already been refunded, customers are being advised to check their statements and contact their bank if required to organise a refund.
